Hey JP,

Have you extended the OpenTag protocol to be able to do multi-hop or is it still a one hop network? Can the one hop be used to register a far away node that the coordinator (base) cannot communicate directly with?

The OpenTag protocol is DASH7, which supports multihop. There is nothing left to do in the protocol. I haven't implemented multihop routing in OpenTag, which has little to do with the protocol, and rather has to do with writing some type of routing algorithm. Each application tends to have a sort of algorithm that works best for the app, and there is not a ton of demand for multihop in OpenTag at the moment. If multihop is an important thing for your app, I can certainly help you with it or at least give you some pointers.

Note there are some caveats if you want low-power + multihop. Low-power, ad-hoc, multihop: pick two. The problem is that you need to make some compromises to have low-power + multihop. There will be high latency (e.g. 1 min), and you will need to have a more-or-less static network. Maybe some movement, sure, but more like zone-to-zone movement rather than "roaming." The reason is because it is costly to reconfigure routing tables -- it requires a lot of comm time. This is true for any wireless multihop system. Almost every multihop wireless system on the market expects to be mains powered, and the other one or two out there are used specifically for monitoring things that don't move.
